We are a small two-person operation, and all the furniture is hand-made locally in our shop in the Masonboro Sound area of New Hanover County.
We hand-pick all the lumber, so that the most visible parts (the seat slats, the back slats, and the arms) are virtually knot-free. We are now crafting each piece of Masonboro Adirondack furniture out of #1-grade kiln-dried pressure-treated pine with a comfortable curved back and wide level armrests for setting a drink or plate on. Can be left unfinished to slowly weather to a nice gray color, or because the wood is kiln-dried, you can now immediately paint or stain with no waiting for the wood to dry.
You've seen Adirondacks for two to three times this price that are not nearly as comfortable, or as sturdy and strong. And you can go to the Big Box stores, and buy untreated Adirondacks for $150+ that wobble when you sit in them, and won't last a year.
Based on plans from Norm Abram's "New Yankee Workshop." All edges are rounded over and all wood is sanded smooth for a more comfortable feel. All joints are connected with galvanized nuts and bolts or Phillips II Plus screws, and ALL JOINTS ARE GLUED WITH GORILLA GLUE polyurethane and exterior grade Titebond II to make for a more solid and sturdy chair for years to come!!! To our knowledge, we are the ONLY local builder of yard and garden furniture that uses glue on our wood joints. We also use 1/4 inch galvanized bolts and nuts (as well as the glue, too) at the stress points---where the legs intersect on each side (3 bolts in EACH joint) and where the arms intersect the stretcher behind the back slats (2 bolts in EACH joint). Most local builders use only screws.
We also have perfected plans for an Adirondack Loveseat that we can make for $370. Because of the added length to this piece, we build it with 5/4 boards for the legs, and 2x4's for the horizontal support pieces. And of course, all joints are glued and bolted or screwed just like our chairs.
